How I work with ADHD and Neurodiversity

I help adults and parents of children with ADD and ASC to navigate all the challenges while learning how to support themselves and their families.

Could this be you?

• Your child has just been diagnosed with ADD or ASC and youv'e no idea what the next steps are

• You want to know how to connect with your child's school but you don't know the right questions to ask or even who to speak to

• You can't locate the page on the council website that tells you about support (it's not just me, right?)

• You've seen your child self-harm and you're terrified that anything you do will make things worse

• You want to learn how to support your child when they're overwhelmed or having a meltdown but you find it hard to keep calm yourself (been there, it's getting better!)

• You hope to support your child to improve their attention, focus, and social skills

You have a daughter, but all the guidance you read is geared towards boys

• You wonder if loosening your non negotiables will lead you down a slippery slope of having no control at all.

• Your child is refusing to go to school and it's completely stressing you out

• Perhaps you are an adult who has recently been diagnosed yourself OR you're starting to recognise you might have many of the traits your kids have

• You need to learn to keep your own emotions in check and FAST

If this resonates, I'm here to reassure you I've gone through the same struggles and I know what can really help. With 25+ years experience as a therapist, specialist evidence-based training and mum of neurodiverse girls, I have a passion to help people avoid the same pitfalls as me.

ADHD and Neurodiversity

Within the last five years, an important focus of my practice has been working with people with diagnoses or self-diagnoses of ADHD, ASC, PDA, dyslexia and other neurodiversity challenges. I have successfully worked with many people, and I attend regular conferences and up-to-date trainings to support this work. I also pay attention to the different male and female presentations for these conditions.

As a person with ADHD myself, I understand the challenges first-hand and have lived experience of techniques that work long-term. I use up to date, evidence-based treatments, and guide clients through a ten-point treatment plan mapping their own unique challenges, enhancing executive function, and working on lasting personal change.

The ten-point plan includes:

1. Thorough clinical assessment

2. Identification of individual symptoms and difficulties

3. Challenging negative mindset and thoughts

4. Establishing good sleep hygiene

5. Effective time management techniques

6. Decluttering your living space

7. Healthy eating and exercise

8. Relaxation, self-care and emotion regulation

9. Medication and professional support

10.Ongoing maintenance

Together, we will work to create long-lasting change, shame-busting as we go, learning to harness the positives of our conditions and THRIVE.

Transactional Analysis and how it can specifically help

Therapy is a separate service to coaching, although there is some overlap. However, applying TA to neurodiversity has many benefits:

• It can help to identify the root causes of behavioural patterns and offer insight into effective interventions.

• Help people prepare or cope with an ADHD/ASC diagnosis.

• Guide people through processing their past (trauma, anxiety etc)

• Support people to understand the way their experiences shaped their view of themselves and the world

• Explore coping mechanisms to help manage mental health challenges, as well as anxiety and stress in the moment

What some people say:

“Very professional, understanding and listened to my concerns and gave me the info to help. I am doing a lot better since I had this diagnosis; I understand my issues so much better and have practical ways to manage them. Jenny made me feel relaxed and the sessions had an indirect effect of helping my family life as well.” Gemma, 42

“I learned a lot about myself working with Jenny. During our work together, she guided me to learn how to break out of the unhelpful patterns I kept replaying. I now feel equipped to move my life on in a new direction.” Lorna, 39
