Is this you?
- Are you coming towards the end of your training course, feeling enthusiastic and excited, but you’re not sure how to get started?
- New to private practice and feel overwhelmed at all the steps needed to set up and market your services.
- Perhaps you're yearning to leave your current job but worried about the financial impact and risk of change.
- Or maybe you've been in your practice a little while but just not seeing the results you’d like.
I get that as mental health professionals we spend years of our time doing voluntary work, investing massive amounts of money into creating this incredible career… but training courses don’t teach us how to make it financially viable. In fact, we are told:
“You don’t become a counsellor to make money”
“You’re here to help people, don’t be selfish”
“People can’t afford therapy”
It is both possible to have a brilliant and satisfying career as Therapist AND make a good living from it. We’re in the business of transforming lives and we need to have greater belief in ourselves and the value of our services. This is not a hobby!
Here are some important facts to think about.
New therapists often struggle with:
Low client numbers: According to the BACP (or local equivalent), many newly qualified therapists wait 6–12 months to build a client base.
Poor visibility: In a 2022 Counsellors’ Network UK survey, 67% of early-career therapists said they felt “lost” in how to market themselves ethically.
A Psychology.org article in 2021 showed therapists with clear branding and niche visibility filled 70% of their practice within 6 months vs. 25% without.
Google search data shows “therapist near me” searches increased by over 300% in the past 5 years, showing that those who are findable get found.
Impostor syndrome: A Psychology Today poll found that over 70% of new practitioners doubted their readiness for private practice even after certification.
Join my three-hour workshop which will cover all the fundamental elements of starting out on the right foot, and planning for greater growth in your current practice.
We’ll look at:
- How to market yourself effectively
- Where and how to advertise to capitalise on your individual skills
- How to change your mindset from inner-critic to cheerleader
- Focussing in on the detail – who is your ideal client and how can you capture their attention?
How much? The session will cost £55 for three hours.
When? Friday, June 27th from 10am-1pm online.
If you can’t make it in person, recordings will be available for a reduced price of £25.
I also offer individual supervision sessions focussing specifically on private practice set up and growth.
